Lev Tolstoj, cartografo del reale.

Il 9 settembre 1828, a Jasnaja Poljana, veniva alla luce Lev “Leo” Tolstoj: l’aristocratico che trasformò il romanzo in un laboratorio morale e la vita in materia narrativa. Le coordinate sono certe; il lascito, ancora vivo. Con Guerra e pace (serializzato 1865–67, in volume 1869) aprì un atlante della storia dove la filosofia convive con il dettaglio quotidiano; con Anna Karenina (1875–77) mise a nudo la felicità e il suo contrario, inaugurando un realismo capace di far tremare i salotti e la coscienza. Forma e verità camminano insieme, passo dopo passo.

Tolstoj non fu solo romanziere. Predicò una radicale non‑resistenza al male, che attraversò i confini fino a un giovane avvocato indiano: Gandhi. La loro corrispondenza — “A Letter to a Hindu” — è una grammatica di disobbedienza civile fondata sull’amore come unica forza davvero rivoluzionaria. Nell’ultima stagione, l’uomo che cercava una vita povera e giusta lasciò la propria tenuta e morì in una piccola stazione ferroviaria, ad Astapovo: una fine che sembra una parabola, tra viaggio e congedo. Eppure, ogni ritorno alle sue pagine è un inizio. Rileggerlo oggi non è nostalgia: è metodo per capire chi siamo e chi potremmo diventare. #mjosburton (マーティン)
